Why choose SoloStep over other free converters

Every image converter online is free. Here is what is actually different about this one.

Nothing is uploaded

Open your network tab and watch. Your file is decoded, resized and re-encoded by your own browser — no server ever receives the bytes.

The real number, every time

We show the exact output size, and it matches the file you download. No tool can compress losslessly to any target, and we do not pretend otherwise.

No signup, no watermark

No account, no email, no queue, no branded corner on your output. Close the tab and the working session is gone.

What you get, and what you never will

The trade-offs most free converters make, and the ones SoloStep refuses to.

"Common elsewhere" describes the usual pattern for free browser-based converters, not any one company. Compare for yourself — the network tab does not lie.

How to compress or convert a file

Three steps, no account, no queue and no watermark on the way out.

  1. 01

    Pick your file

Drag it in or tap the button. We read the actual bytes, not the extension, so a mislabelled file fails loudly instead of silently.

  2. 02

    Set the target

Choose a size, a format or a page layout. Defaults are good enough that most people never open the options at all.

  3. 03

    Download it

You see before, after and the exact byte count. If a target was not reachable, we say why and what to change.

Frequently asked questions

If a tool cannot do something, its page says so. Honest limits beat confident guesses.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Conversion runs in JavaScript and WebAssembly inside your browser. Open devtools, switch to the Network tab, and run a conversion — there is no upload request to see.

Can you compress a JPG to exactly 100KB?

We compress to at or just under your target, which is what upload forms actually check. An exact byte count would mean padding the file with junk data, which we will not do.

Why does the image look softer at 20KB?

A small target forces lower JPEG quality and sometimes smaller dimensions. We always try quality first and only reduce dimensions when the target cannot be reached otherwise — and we show you the final dimensions.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. Every tool is built mobile-first, works with the gallery picker, and keeps the action button in reach. Large photos are processed one at a time to stay inside phone memory limits.

Try it on a real photo.

No account. No upload. About four seconds.
